Lalu Story

Step into the Lalu, step into tranquility

The Lalu Qingdao is an idyllic seaside resort saturated with implications of a Confucius hermit. Expect to see the modern embodiment of classic Confucian culture in all its details, such as splendid architecture, beautiful artifacts, enchanting music, and delicacies. It’s situated on the peninsula by Phoenix Mountain in Qingdao, stretching into the ocean and surrounded by the sea on three sides. Such proximity to the ocean allows for complete communion with the boundless sky and water.

The architectural aesthetics of the Lalu Qingdao

The Lalu Qingdao is designed by the international architect, Kerry Hill Starting with the Lalu Sun Moon Lake, the Lalu hotel chain has established itself with a minimalistic and Zen-like architectural style. Kerry Hill may be Australian, but he is deeply attuned to the eastern aesthetics of fusing human and nature as one. Savor all details of the Lalu Qingdao, and one will discover that it utilizes four natural, low-key materials: logs, granite, glass, and metals to create a building as if it’s “born” out of nature. This kind of construction will not appear old and worn out as time goes by, but instead its value will be seen and grow with time.

Modernist manifestation of Confucian culture

The Lalu Qingdao is characterized by Confucian culture and presented with an exquisite taste of the literati, as seen in all details. Step into the lobby and listen to ethereal tunes from ancient musical instruments. Stroll into corridors and admire splendid lacquerware, paintings, and calligraphy. Inside guest rooms, pick up a copy of the thread-bound Analects of Confucius and you can immediately converse with Confucius. Sit in the pavilion, enjoy the tea ceremony, and admire the ocean view for a leisurely afternoon. Confucian culture, refreshing, elegant and profound, offers guests caught in daily busyness and fatigue an inner purge of fluster and commotion.

Inner Peace

Different from sensory stimulation offered by gilded conventional luxury hotels, the Lalu accommodates you mostly on a spiritual level. Over here, the distance between people is far, and the low density of people in the space is a form of luxury.
Loosely occupied space gives people a sense of existence. Anywhere in the hotel, people are viewed as the center of the space. All decorations, services, and landscapes exist for the people so that each person can explore the meaning of existence in his/her own little universe.

Order and Change

Over here, what is most deeply felt is a sense of order. Subtly and gently, designers change our habits and instill in us ideas about life for us to maintain our rationality. Over here, you can savor tea, read a book, or simply space out, which are all relaxing, pleasant, non-oppressive or purpose-driven, and yet can extract us from daily complex demands allowing us to enjoy the ease of a slow-paced life.
The Lalu Qingdao is designed as such that one will never be tired of it visually. Large-scale designs interplay with varying eye lines in any given circumstances. As such, seated on the same spot, the viewer can often receive varying visual content. The twists and turns in the floor plan layout make it less straightforward to get familiarized with the space, and therefore you cannot be tired or bored with the space. Plus seasonal changes in the landscape. The Lalu is like a magic box always full of unexpected surprises.
